Pet Preparation

The understanding of Hawaii State Laws is prominent to acknowledge before your PCS. Pets are Ohana too and we don’t want them left behind due to negligence. To protect the rabies-free island of Hawaii, the quarantine law exists to protect our Ohanas from serious potential health problems corresponding to the introduction and outbreak of rabies. All dogs and cats of all shapes, sizes and ages must adhere to Hawaii’s dog and cat import requirements. All dogs and cats must oblige to go through quarantine. To prepare yourself for an easy transition, discuss the move with your veterinarian prior to your departure. Getting an early start on your pets pre-arrival checklist will result in less time your pet will spend in quarantine. After all, you wouldn’t want your Ohana in quarantine for up to 120 days upon arrival when they could be released within 30 days, 5 days or immediately, from the Honolulu International Airport (HNL). So, don’t wait any longer to start the quarantine process. For more information visit Hawaii’s Animal Quarantine Information page.

Don't wait or procrastinate!

If the 5-day or less quarantine sounds most ideal for you, please follow the requirements stated in the checklist.
Inspection hours for dog and cats at HNL are between 0800-1700 daily. Pet owners must be sure to arrange flights to arrive by 1530 because it may take up to 1 hour for the airlines to transport a pet to the Airport Animal Quarantine Holding Facility. Pets will have to stay overnight at the Animal Quarantine Station if airline arrival times occur beyond 1630.
